Recreational Spring League Overview

The Scottsdale Soccer Recreational Spring League is a community based non-coed soccer program for boys and girls in PreK (age 4 as of 8/31/2017) through 4th grade. Coaches are selected from parent volunteers who make the program run! Currently, there are over 1,000 Recreational Spring League players organized into roughly 140 ‘pure grade level’ teams – 1st grade boys teams play 1st grade boys teams, 3rd grade girls teams play 3rd grade girls teams, etc.

The 9-game season will be played on Saturdays from March 3 through May 5, 2018. (No games on March 17 due to Scottsdale Unified Schools Spring break.)

Player applications to participate are accepted from December to January 31 with team formation beginning early February. After January 31, the 'wait list period' begins from which players are placed on teams on a first come, first served basis to fill openings as they become available. We consistently place 90% or more of players from the Wait List so do not hesitate to sign up. Any wait list players who are not placed will receive full refunds.

Coaches will receive their rosters by February 15. Coaches are then encouraged to contact their players immediately and practices can begin as early as the week of February 26.

Practice Days, Time, and Location

The volunteer coach chooses the day(s), time and location of practice since they have been kind enough to volunteer their time to coach the team. Most teams practice on Monday through Thursday, between 4:30pm and 7:30pm, although coaches can determine a practice schedule that is right for the team. We try to create "neighborhood teams" as much as possible so it is more convenient for a coach to schedule practices "in the neighborhood", subject to field availability.

Practice sessions are usually once per week for Preschool and Kindergarteners for one hour or less while older players can practice up to ninety minutes two times per week.

Practice information for your player will not be available, in advance, until your coach contacts you to let you know they are your coach and has worked through the field allocation process.

Game Fields
Games are played on Saturdays between 8:00am and 4:00pm on City of Scottsdale fields:

Coach & Teammate Requests
Requests for placement with a specific coach and/or teammate must be made during the registration process. Every attempt will be made to satisfy requests for those who register by January 31, however, not all requests can be fulfilled. Coach and teammate requests will more than likely not be able to be honored for those who register after January 31, during the wait list period of registration.

Registration & Pricing
Regular registration must be completed by January 31. Any registrations received February 1 through March 15 are placed on a wait list and players will be placed on a team on a first-come, first-served basis as openings are available.

We continue to offer our value pricing, which has been the same since Spring 2009. This is likely the best value in youth sports!

Registration Period Dates  PreS & Kindergarteners   1st graders & older
 Regular Registration Through January 31st  $70.00  $85.00
Wait List Period  February 1st through March 15th  $100.00  $115.00

Can I help?
As a volunteer-based organization we are always in need of coaches! As you register your player, please sign up to coach if you can. Soccer is a simple game to coach for teams of this age. We need your help to provide this great experience for our young soccer player! Thank you to all past, present and future coaches who volunteer their valuable time to the kids!

PLEASE NOTE: Our Scottsdale Soccer Recreational and Competitive Soccer Programs are intended to be mutually exclusive: Blackhawks Competitive Program players play for the Blackhawks Competitive Program and cannot also register for the Recreational Program. Likewise, Recreational Program players cannot also register and play for the Blackhawks Competitive Program.
