Max Shacknai Invitational

Phoenix Rising FC Youth Soccer hosts one of Arizona’s top competitive tournaments the Max Shacknai Invitational.  This tournament is typically played in late February and has over 400 teams participating with over 100 from other states, regions and countries.

In conjunction with the Max Shacknai Invitational we are the only tournament in Arizona that proudly sponsors an Advanced Referee Development Academy.  Over 30 Referees are selected to participate in the Advanced Academy which have included some of the top Referees Arizona and from within our Region and throughout the US.

Referees will be paired in groups of six (6) and receive coaching/mentoring from some of the best in Referees in the US during each of their matches.  We are proud to have a strong working relationship with Referees from PRO Referees and they have been instrumental in making our academy a success.

On Friday of the tournament, the Academy Referees meet to receive high-level instruction and field training prior to the start of the tournament from our lead instructor that utilizes the latest video clips from FIFA and US Soccer to develop and train the Academy Referees.

On Saturday and Sunday the Academy Referees will be working matches and afterward they will spend time with their coach/mentor to discuss and review their match.  This type of coach/mentoring has been an initiative of US Soccer and the West Region of US Youth Soccer.  Phoenix Rising FC Youth Soccer is one of the only clubs to incorporate this type of training into its annual competitive tournament.
